On October 12, Hudhud Cyclone crossed the coast of Andhra Pradesh near Visakhapatnam with winds about 200 km/h (115 mph). Within hours after hitting the coast, the cyclone severed off the radar link of Visakhapatnam Cyclone Warning Centre. On October 13, it was announced that Hudhud had caused at least 24 deaths within Andhra Pradesh and early estimates peg total damage costs at 100 billion rupees (US$1.63 billion) This makes Hudhud the first storm in the basin to cause at least $1 billion in damage.
Visakhapatnam, also known as Vizag, bore the brunt of Hudhud. Hundreds of vehicles parked on roads were damaged while heavy rains inundated few colonies. The runway at Visakhapatnam Airport was inundated while the radar and navigational aids were destroyed. The roof of the terminal was torn apart due to the speed of the cyclone. Roofs were ripped off of homes, trees were uprooted and power lines were brought down by the Cyclone. Businesses are forced to close their doors, industries lost their machines, some lost their inventory which cripples their ability to bounce back.
